"The Get Up" is the first single of a new series of 8 fortnightly releases from Aotearoa based Nigerian Hiphop artist and producer Mazbou Q. Filled with lush, retro-style production and laced with sounds of summer, "The Get Up", co-produced by Devon Abrams (Pacific Heights, ex-Shapeshifter) is a motivational, funk driven number for fans of Anderson .Paak and Kendrick Lamar.
The feel-good anthem came out of a place of struggle for Mazbou Q. “When I wrote this song, I was actually quite down mentally. I felt like giving up on music altogether, but something inside of me told me that now was more important than ever to keep grinding" he says.
“The Get Up is ultimately a letter of encouragement to myself and anyone else who is thinking of throwing in the towel. There are a lot of mental health challenges faced by creatives in Aotearoa, especially right now in these COVID times. Many of us are dealing with so many internal and external factors that are working against us, so the more positivity I can put out there, the better"
